One of the questions I’ve wrestled with lately is this: If God knows my pain, sees every tear, and truly cares about what I’m going through, why does He allow me to stay in it?

Maybe you’ve asked that question too.

When we’re walking through grief, loss, disappointment, or uncertainty, it’s easy to believe that if God really cared, He would remove the hurt immediately. But what happens when He doesn’t?

Modern man sitting on the floor in a softly lit room looks up at a glowing vision of Joseph seated on a throne in Egypt as his brothers bow before him, with the Bible verse from Lamentations 3:25 about hoping in the Lord.Trusting What We Cannot Understand

Trust isn’t built when everything makes sense. Trust grows when we choose to believe God’s character even when we don’t understand His plan.

Isaiah 55:8 reminds us: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.

God’s Silence Is Not God’s Absence

There have been moments in my grief when God felt quiet. Not absent. Just quiet. Looking back, I realize He never left.

Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

What Trust Can Look Like During Grief

Trust during grief does not always look strong or confident. Sometimes it looks small, quiet, and barely visible. But even those small steps matter.

  • Getting out of bed when you don’t feel like it
  • Praying even when you don’t know what to say
  • Reading one verse of Scripture because that’s all you can manage
  • Believing God is still good when life doesn’t feel good
  • Taking the next step without knowing where the path leads

Jesus Understands Suffering

Jesus experienced rejection, betrayal, sorrow, loneliness, and suffering. Hebrews 4:15 reminds us that He understands our weaknesses and struggles.

Lamentations 3:25.”Holding On When the Hurt Remains

Some wounds take a long time to heal. Yet even there, God continues His work. Lamentations 3:25 reminds us, “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him.”

Scripture Reflection

  • Where have I seen God’s presence in my pain?
  • What questions am I still carrying?
  • Am I willing to trust God’s heart even when I don’t understand His plan?
