There are days when I don’t even realize how much digital noise I’ve allowed into my heart. The world is loud, our feeds never stop refreshing, and our phones buzz like they have something urgent to say every five minutes. The truth is, most of it can wait. Our hearts, however, need rest.
I’m slowly learning that protecting my peace is part of protecting my faith. When I set boundaries, I’m not shutting the world out — I’m letting God in.
Here are a few simple things that have been helping me:
- Turn off non-essential notifications. The world won’t fall apart if my phone is quiet for a while, but my mind sure feels calmer.
- Create ‘screen-free’ spaces. Meals, morning routines, or quiet evenings can stay sacred instead of screen-filled.
- Take breaks on purpose. Five minutes of fresh air or silence can reset my whole day.
- Put Scripture in the middle of the noise. A verse on my lock screen reminds me who’s really speaking to my heart.
- Remember: rest is not wasted time. Sometimes the most spiritual thing I can do is step away and breathe.
Technology isn’t the enemy — it’s just loud. And if I’m not careful, it can drown out the gentle ways God speaks. Setting boundaries helps me stay present, stay grateful, and stay connected to the One who gives peace.
Because at the end of the day, my phone can wait. My heart can’t.

Love this. I think we are all guilty of letting technology run our lives. We feel “naked” when we don’t have our phones in our hands and tend to scroll when we should be relaxing and shutting out the noise. I know there are a few apps that help with this, but unfortunately they cost money and I refuse to pay for an app!

Yes -all you said here is SO true! I’ve established what I call my “evening routine,” which consists of stepping away from my computer screen and TV. I usually will read some and then listen to my Bible on my phone – so, I do still have my phone nearby, but I use it to listen to God’s Word. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
